Dolphin Watching

Spotting a dolphin from shore is great but it doesn’t compare to the experience of seeing these amazing creatures swimming and jumping so close you feel like you can almost touch them. The Tampa Bay area is home to more than 550 bottlenose dolphins. We are always on the lookout for dolphins, it’s not a guarantee but we will always stop to enjoy them.

Did You Know?

There are 36 kinds of oceanic dolphins and 5 species of river dolphins in the world.

  • The Bottlenose dolphin, most common in the Tampa Bay area, is typically 6-12 feet in length.
  • They eat more than 20lbs of mullet, sheepshead, pinfish, flounder and marine invertebrates each day.
  • They rise to the surface for breaths through their blowhole 2-3 times per minute, but can stay under for 20 minutes.
  • They live in groups of 10-30 members, called pods.
  • There lifespan is 40-50 years.
